Understanding Your Easy Roam Benefits and Limitations
When traveling abroad, staying connected is essential. TELUS Easy Roam feature allows you to use your phone just like you do at home, but it’s important to understand what’s included and what’s not.
What’s Included
- All Data Usage from your monthly rate plan, including shared data. This means you can browse the internet, stream music, and use apps without worrying about extra charges, as long as you stay within your plan limits.
- Calls Within Canada and Your Current Location. This means you can make calls to any phone number in Canada and within the country you are visiting at no additional charge. This ensures you can stay in touch with friends and family back home without incurring extra costs.
- Text Messaging. All incoming and outgoing texts to any phone number worldwide are included. Plus, incoming texts won’t activate Easy Roam, allowing you to receive messages without incurring additional fees.
What’s Not Included
- Cruise Ships and In-Flight Usage. If you’re on a cruise ship or in-flight, charges apply at $0.75 per text and $7.00 per minute for calls, and data usage will be blocked.
- 411 and 511 Calls. These calls are subject to standard roaming pay-per-use rates, so plan accordingly if you need assistance while traveling.
- North American Toll-Free Numbers. Calls to toll-free numbers (1-800, 844, etc.) from outside North America are charged at roaming rates. This also applies to international toll-free numbers.
- Calls Outside Canada. Any calls made to numbers outside of Canada and the country you are in will incur standard roaming charges.
- Calls to Sanger California (559-726-XXXX), Carroll Iowa (712-775-XXXX), Lake Park Iowa (712-432-XXXX), Oglala South Dakota (605-562-XXXX), and/or Redfield South Dakota (605-475-XXXX) are subject to the standard roaming pay-per-use rates.
- Usage that exceeds what is included in your monthly rate plan
- Applicable taxes not included
Good to Know
- Easy Roam activates only when you use data, send a text, make or answer a call, or check voicemail. Once activated, it remains valid until 11:59 PM in your travel time zone. If you wish to avoid charges the next day, simply refrain from these actions and turn off data roaming.
- If you run out of data during your trip, you can easily add a data top-up.
- There’s no need to remove Easy Roam from your account upon returning to Canada, as it only activates when you travel.
- Remember, picture and video messaging, including iMessage and RCS chat, uses data rather than text messages. Data usage does not apply when using Wi-Fi or if data roaming is turned off.
- Upon arrival at your destination, you’ll receive a free text message confirming that Easy Roam is enabled. For any management of Easy Roam, please use self-serve options in your MyTELUS account, as TELUS representatives cannot make changes to this feature.
